'Pipa' and 'sitar' are important plucked string instruments with long istories in Chinese and Indian music cultures respectively. According to the instrumental classification by Sachs-Hornbostel, both of them are considered part of the same subcategory, necked bowl lute... Other writers indicted these two instruments with similar classification.. However, froma comparison of practical left and right hand techniques in contemporary performance on these instruments, many discrepancies, which result from different aesthetic preferences in Chinese culture and Indian culture, can be found...
